"The voice for those who cannot speak for themselves"
Why volunteer?
First and foremost, there are no paid employees for
Spencer Pet Rescue. We work solely off of the help
from dedicated volunteers. The animals are thankful
for each and every volunteer that walks through the
door, because without them, Spencer Pet Rescue would
not exist. There is so much to be done each and
everyday, and some rescue need a little extra TLC
than others.  Still not convinced? Why should you
volunteer? Because if you don't, who would?
What are the requirements?
You must be 18 years of age or older to volunteer at
the shelter.
Jobs to be done
Morning Duties
The mornings are focused on cleanliness. All  cleaning is
done in the morning. BINGO! You guessed it , we are
always short on help at this time because no one wants
to do the dirty job. The kennel take care of cleaning all
shelter dog runs in the morning. What can you do?
-Lay fresh bedding and fresh water for all dogs
-Laundry is always a ongoing task
-Clean cat cages( we need help with this the most)
-Wash food and water dishes
-Sweep and mop floors
- Scoop the canine exercise yards
- Feed at noon
-Answer the telephone
Afternoon Duties
Afternoon duties consist of an assortment of things
from hands on contact to cleaning. If you are more of
a hands on person who would like to interact more
with the animals, this is the best time for you to
come in. What can you do?
-Supervise a exercise time in the outside yards
- Walk the dogs to get them out of their runs
-socialize the cats with 1on 1 attention
-Bathe shelter dogs
-Do the afternoon spot scoop for the cats
-Do the biscuit walk
-Let out at 4
-Spot clean inside dog kennels, straighten beds, and
fill water buckets for the night.
Other
We always need help with fund raising. Creating
events and running them. Check out our  Fund raiser
page.
Foster care: Opening up your home to provide
temporary housing and proper socialization to a
animal in need. All puppies are in foster care for
their first 2 weeks at the shelter.

Attention girl scout and boy scout troops!!! We always
need help collecting much needed food and money for
the shelter. Ask about holding a charitable event for
Spencer Pet Rescue, or other  special tasks that we
need help with.

Vet Runners are always needed to help run shelter
animals to the vet. Our spay and neuter vet is
located in Waterloo. We drop off on Wednesday and
pick up Thursday afternoon. Our vaccinating vet is
located in Fairview heights.
On some occasions we need help with scheduled
pick-ups from another rescue in Vandailia. Be a
lifeline, which is a transporter of rescued animals
from Vandailia to our shelter.
